Do you know what hygge means? If you’d google it and come across to lists full of scented candles, blankets, sweatpants, fireplaces and woolly socks, please forget them all. Yes, they’re related to hygge, but it is more than not an object or a concept that could be told as having a candle or woolly socks to get it.
Let me be more specific, and imagine that you arrive home after a tiring day and have a cup of tea at home. Or having a bubble bath and listening to your favourite playlist, watching a good film in your pyjamas, going out with the best friend for a pasta&wine dinner or cooking your best recipe for the beloved ones… These are all hygge because hygge is a feeling, a particular moment with full of joy and peace, rather than an object.
I run across to this Danish term when I was trying to find a name for my blog, and after watching videos, reading lots of articles about it – I was hooked on this concept, hence I decided to pick a name which makes me feel this atmosphere. Hyggekrog is the place you feel hygge, there can not be a better name for this website because I want to create a warm atmosphere and enjoy the good things in life here.
According to the author of The Book of Hygge, ‘hygge’ can be defined as ”A quality of presence and experience of belonging and togetherness. It’s a feeling of being warm, safe, comforted and sheltered. To hygge is to invite intimacy and connection. It’s a feeling of engagement and relatedness, of belonging to the moment and to each other. Hygge is a sense of abundance and contentment. Hygge is about living, not having.”
I’ll be writing more about hygge, but for now, I just want to explain what it is and why I chose this name for my blog. I have a lot to write about it and can’t wait to do that!
Hope you discover the hygge that already exists in your life.
